Roy Starnes, 95, of Clinton, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, love, and craftsmanship. Born on November 11, 1930, in Pattison, Mississippi, Roy lived a full and vibrant life defined by devotion to his family, deep-rooted friendships, and an indomitable sense of humor that could light up any room.
Roy’s life was a tapestry woven with hard work, storytelling, and adventure. A proud veteran, he served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After his service, Roy’s talents and drive led him into the barber profession, where he became not only a skilled entrepreneur but also a neighborhood fixture. Generations of patrons will fondly remember sitting in his chair, laughing at his quick wit, and hearing a story or two that always ended with a twinkle in his eye.
Though he built a successful career, Roy’s greatest joys were found beyond work. An avid outdoorsman, he was a skilled bird hunter who trained exceptional bird dogs and could often be found with a shotgun in hand along a familiar Mississippi field. He was also devoted to the game of golf, even achieving the elusive hole-in-one—a story he told often and with animated pride. When he wasn’t outdoors, Roy showed his craftsmanship in woodworking and his culinary finesse at the grill, known especially for cooking the best steak and fried catfish anyone could ask for.
Roy was a Mason and took great pride in his involvement with his community and the bonds he formed through his fraternity. He was known by all as a “character,” full of charm, good humor, and an unshakable zest for life. His storytelling was legendary, his wit razor sharp, and his laughter contagious.
On March 10, 2026, Roy would have celebrated his 70th wedding anniversary with his beloved wife, Celia Frishman Starnes. Their love story was one of steadfast devotion and enduring partnership, a model for family and friends alike. Roy is survived by Celia, his daughters Charlotte Indeck (Dave), Cindy Cannon (Charlie) and Edie Dees (Scott); as well as grandchildren Rose Caracostas (Chris), Cameron Cannon, Ellie Starnes Horacek (Stephen), Sylvan Starnes (Mandy), Starnes Dees, Emma Starnes and great-grandchildren, extended family, and cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Starnes, whose memory remained close to Roy’s heart throughout his life.
A funeral service honoring Roy’s life will be officiated by Tim Starnes Wednesday, February 18th at 1 pm., with visitation at 12:00. Interment immediately following at Wintergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers are Scott Middleton, John Selden, Doug May, Hank Drake, Robert Starnes and Gene Coward. Honorary pallbearers include Mark Atwood, Wayne Starnes, Don Starnes, Ted Starnes, Harry Starnes, Randy Starnes and Harry Easley.
Those who knew Roy Starnes will remember a man of great heart and humor, who loved deeply, laughed often, and lived fully. He leaves behind not only a lifetime of memories but also the stories that will be told, with a smile, for generations to come.
