Syble S. Simmons

Syble Rebecca Stubbs Simmons, 88, passed away on August 1, 2014. Funeral services will be held on August 4 at 11:00 A.M. at the Utica Baptist Church in Utica followed by burial at Utica Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:00 A.M. at the Utica Baptist Church on August 4.
Syble was born in Utica on June 14, 1926. She grew up in Utica, MS. After graduation from Utica High School, she attended Hinds Junior College and Delta State, and graduated with a BS in Education. She taught elementary school in Utica for 25 years at Utica Elementary and Mixon Elementary before her retirement in 1988. She was an active member of Utica Baptist Church and a devoted choir member. She was beloved by her family not only for her smile that lit up a room but also for feeding all gathered for her "feasts". She was gracious and loving and a woman whose faith led her walk through life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Aaron and Kate Stubbs; her sisters, Helenelise Smith of Durant and Marjory Hammond of Jackson; and husband, George Whitfield Simmons, Jr.
Survivors include sons, Whit III of Germantown, TN, Billy (Cindy) of Madison, MS, and Harold (Debbie) of Aurora, CO; daughter, Rebecca Tuggle (Ross) of Memphis, TN; sisters, Elsie Marie Nason of Signal Mt., TN and Rachel Tucker of Cary, NC; grandchildren, Jill Goulait (Jeff) of Wyoming, OH and Jenny Stofac (Greg) of Denver, CO, Sam Simmons (Kristen) of Hendersonville, NC, Lilli Simmons of Germantown, TN, Brad (Sharon) Estess of Madison, MS, Loren Estess of Dallas, Tx, Lana (Zayra) Estevilla of Austin, TX; gret-grandchildren, Lily Andresen-Simmons, Marianne and Bobby Stofac, Claire and Craig Goulait, Wade, Clark, Trent, and Piper Estess, and Ash Estevilla.
The family wishes to thank Syble's dear friend and caregiver, Mary Dixon of Utica for her loyalty and loving care.
