William Joseph “Jay” Hynum, 65, of Vicksburg passed away on April 23, 2024. Jay retired as a mill wright. He loved hunting, fishing, and spending time with his friends. He was very outgoing and had a big-kid heart. He will be remembered for his strong personality and for being a helper. He loved his dogs and will also be remembered for caring for his mother’s chihuahua Annabeth. He enjoyed working with his hands as well. Jay is the current Master of WG Paxton Lodge #559.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willam Joseph and Marie Pierce Hynum.
He is survived by his sister, Patsy Hynum Taylor (John); nephews, Jeff Taylor (Melissa) and Scott Taylor (Heidi); great-nieces, Dylan Taylor and Hayley Grace Taylor; great-nephews, Blake Taylor and Hayden Taylor; and his partner of 20 years, Anita Johnson.
Honored to serve as pallbearers: Jeff Ellison, Rob Ellison, Daniel Johnson, Bruce Goodwin, Gene Abbott, and Walter Clark. Honorary pallbearers are the members of the WG Paxton Lodge #559.
Services will be held Friday, April 26, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at the Port Gibson chapel with Pastor Roger Cresswell presiding. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until time of service. Interment will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery.
At a later date, a special fish-fry will be held to celebrate Jay's life. He so loved having his friends to his home for a big fish-fry each summer.
